Have you been having trouble getting a good night's sleep? One reason why people don't get a good night's sleep is that they don't know how to unwind before sleeping. If you find yourself unable to relax and unwind there are a few things you can do before bedtime to make sure that you get a peaceful rest. Here's a look at some of the main ways in which you can relax before bedtime, so you can get a good night's sleep.

Journaling

Right before bedtime writing in your journal can provide an effective way to relieve the anxieties that have happened throughout the day. If you have a difficult time thinking about what to write, you can use journal prompts to assist you. You can either use a digital journal or write in a paper journal. You can decide which one is right for you.

However, if you are writing before bedtime it is often better to write in a traditional journal as disconnecting from your devices is an important step in unwinding before bed as well.

Turn Off Devices

An effective way to unwind before bedtime is to turn off your devices. Try not to watch TV right before you fall asleep. Scrolling through social media on your phone is a sure way to help disturb your sleep.

The blue light that is emitted from your phone and the TV is very similar to daylight and it can sometimes cause your brain to get confused and keep you awake. The content you are watching on TV or looking at on your device also helps to keep your brain continuously stimulated and this can make it difficult for you to fall asleep

Routines Are Important

Creating a bedtime routine is something that can assist you with getting the rest that you need. Make sure that your bedroom is comfortable and warm or cool enough depending on the season.

You can incorporate journaling, a relaxing bath before bed, or even reading as part of your bedtime routine. It is up to you to decide what works best for you. As long as you do the same thing consistently, it'll make it a lot easier for you to relax and fall asleep.

If you have been struggling to get enough sleep then it may be time for you to examine what you do before bedtime and make a few changes so that you can get the rest you need.
